Always wanted to know if or why to translate/localize
your press releases? How European or Asian publications work that
might be different from U.S. publications? What wire services are
best for disseminating your news internationally?
No question on international PR is too trivial for us. We will get
you the answer even if we have to ask an editor in China
or France!
We invite you to contact us with any questions you may have (feedback@globalpresspr.com)
about your current international PR programs, ideas you might have
for the future, or general musings about doing business or conducting
PR internationally. Each issue, we will present and answer one or
more questions. Please let us know if you prefer to be identified
by name and/or company, or if youd rather remain anonymous.
Either way is fine with us.
Ideally, wed like to see this section turn into a lively forum
for exchanging ideas, learning from past experience, and presenting
information that might be useful to everyones international
PR efforts. Remember, no question is too trivial or too far-fetched
to ask here!
Because this is the first issue of the newsletter, we will begin
by sharing with you a FAQ:
- Should we translate our press releases and why?
Answer: Yes - In my experience you will get quicker and more accurate
coverage if you provide professional translation which is localized.
Make sure that the release has local prices and local contacts.
- When going to Europe, should we do a press conference or 1:1
interviews?
Answer: I have not dared to call a press conference in any European
country. To get 10 editors at the same time to a conference in
these busy times is almost impossible unless you are Microsoft
or Intel. It is harder for your executives to run through the
presentation 20 times during one week but I have very few no-shows
when we go to meet the editor at his/her office.
- How many interviews can you do in one week in Europe?
Answer: 15 20 in 3 or 4 countries. My maximum was 23 because
I know which publishing house to go first, second, etc . I also
group some publications together and make small groups within
a publishing house.
